Made By Rae Top

So I decided to enter a spring top competition, found here. I only just found out about it today, and the closing date is tomorrow, April 30th. I made this top this afternoon, and later will take some pictures, I sure hope the sun stays out.

Its a tunic top from a sixties pattern. It was very easy to make, just a back and front, with darts in the front. And neck and arm facings. It closes at the shoulders with buttons. So no zips or buttonholes, yea.

I used the leftover Ikea bird fabric from my previous dress. I just had enough to make this little top, not sure if maybe its a teeny bit too tight. I hope to wear it in the sunny days ahead, if we get any.

Mothers Birthday

Its my mothers birthday tomorrow, and I thought it would be nice to make her an apron. She said she prefers half to full aprons. So this is what I came up with.

I used some vintage material from the seventies, which I found at my usual shop. I think she will like the flowers Its got two really big pockets on the front. Which is always handy when baking. There is a nice wide waistband, and it ties at the back in a pretty bow.

I made up the pattern myself and it was pretty easy to make. Sure anyone can make an apron, as I've been told!!!! And now to deliver it.

Charlie Bag

I always loved the charlie bag, to be found on the wonderful Burdastyle. Today I noticed verypurpleperson has put up a little tutorial of a modified Charlie bag.

So I set to making it today. I made straps little bit shorter and rounded the corners. I also put in darts. Really I followed the tutorial exactly as said. Now its made I love. The fabric I used is from my good stash, its Cath Kidston, I like the colours a lot. And i also much prefer the shape of this bag than the original.

Its lined with a yellow sheet I picked up at the thrift shop. pictures are taken in my garden, as always. The sun is shining today, hoorah.

Birthday Present

So on Saturday I decided to make a little shrug jacket for my daughters little friend. I used simplicity 4255. Its a really cute pattern and pretty easy to follow. The only problem I had was trying to figure out how to sew the sleeves. But after careful examination I did it.

I used Ikea duvet covers for the outer fabric and lining fabric. I think the combination works well together. Not sure what colour dress this shrug would work best with though. My latest craze at the moment is making yoyo's. They are so easy and I think they add a nice touch. I found the button in a nice shop in Clonmel, only 10 cent. I love a bargain. She will be receiving her present today, and I hope she likes it.

Summer Wallets.

I found this great tutorial for a really cute Wallet from Lolanova. I made a few at the weekend and I was really happy with them.
The tutorial is really well done and easy to follow. They are a great way to use up all those fabric scraps that accumulate to take over your house!!

Thanks again Lola.

Ikea Birds.

I actually finished this dress last week but its been hanging in the kitchen since than looking very sad cos it needs to be hemmed. I just don't feel like hemming it now, not really sure what length to have it. I made it using an old seventies pattern. Which I bought on Etsy. It originally had a collar, but I decided not to add it. Thought fabric was busy enough without a collar. Now that its made I am very happy with the fit. Not so happy with fabric choice. I think maybe this ikea pattern is too busy for a dress. And its kind of see-through also. As you can see from top picture.

Wonder will I ever hem it, and will I ever wear it?

oven mitts to match the aprons

Made these round oven mitts to go with my new aprons. I like the fabric they are lined with fleece to keep them heat proof. They work really well, they do what they say on the tin.
